Recently I finished reading a book called “Born To Create: Stepping Into Your Supernatural Destiny” by Theresa Dedmon and wow it was so encouraging, uplifting, and eye opening.

So I happened upon one of Theresa Dedmon’s videos on YouTube that was from a couple years ago. It was about a prophetic painting she had done. She had seen this picture in her mind and just painted it. She showed it to a group and a woman in the audience claimed it was her daughter. The picture brought about a great healing in that woman’s life by confirming a scene from a dream the mother had had of her daughter. It’s a really short but touching story. Check it out here:

Theresa tells lots of stories like this in her book also, and it just resonates with me. I want that, I want to be that type of artist that brings God’s Kingdom to earth with all the works of my hands.
Below in the comments someone called Theresa “New Age” because they felt what she was talking about was not supported in scripture. I decided to stand up for Theresa because …well, “do unto others as you would have them do to you.” Right?
After I posted my comment I realized how passionately I felt about this issue, and thought that maybe I should write a bit more on it to help me get back into writing, because I haven’t wanted to write on my blogs lately.
That’s something I was just wondering about last night. Why do I deeply want to write, but not on any of my blogs? Hmm…?
Not sure. But anyhow, here’s the comment I wrote:
“If art is not prophetic and not to be used that way, why did God tell Moses to put images of pomegranates, palm trees and other things in the temple? Those were pictures that meant something. They were types, shadows and messages. When God commissions Jeremiah the prophet, Jeremiah first tries to say he can’t do it because he’s too immature, but God shows him how to prophesy. He says, “What do you see Jeremiah?” And Jeremiah says he sees an almond tree. God says, Yes, because I’m WATCHING over my Word to perform it. Watching is the same Hebrew word as Almond. Many prophetic people see in pictures and metaphors. God speaks that way also, so it’s fitting. God is using prophetic art, and it’s nothing new. The first person that is said to have the Spirit of Wisdom come upon them was a craftsman that suddenly knew how to make something for God’s prescribed worship. The same applies. God actually uses Theresa Dedmon’s artwork to minister healing and salvation to people. What an amazing blessing that the works of your hands, your art, would minister healing so deeply to another. ”
Anyhow, I guess if a prophetic art movement is going to grow in our culture we should teach some biblical supports for it and not just assume everyone will automatically jump on board.
So it made me think of doing some prophetic art bible study, because- this is important to me. And I feel like the destinies of future generations will be impacted by whether we empower people to create in God’s Holy Unction, and with the Father’s anointing and leading. Some people were “destined to create”, and they need permission.
